Roorkee, October 2025:
CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee successfully organized a Jigyasa 2.0 Program for 120 students and 6 faculty members from PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, ITBP, Dehradun, aimed at nurturing scientific curiosity and promoting experiential learning among young minds.
The program began with a visit to Dr. Billing’s Exhibition Gallery, where students witnessed several live demonstrations of CBRI’s cutting-edge technologies — including the Shri Ram Mandir model with the Surya Tilak mechanism, High Draught Zig-Zag Brick Kiln Technology for energy-efficient brick production, and disaster-resilient building systems promoting safe and sustainable construction.
An interactive session held at the RNT Auditorium commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Neeraj Jain, Senior Principal Scientist & Nodal Officer (Jigyasa 2.0), followed by Dr. S.K. Panigrahi, Chief Scientist, who highlighted the importance of developing scientific temperament among students through practical exposure and learning.
Insightful lectures were delivered by Dr. Tabish Alam, Senior Scientist, on “Utilisation of Solar Energy in Houses”, emphasizing the role of solar architecture and renewable technologies in sustainable living, and Dr. Hemlata, Senior Scientist, on “Waste Plastic Composites as Building Components”, introducing innovative ways of recycling plastic waste into eco-friendly construction materials.
Students also visited the Rural Technology Park, Fire Safety Engineering Laboratory, and Structural Engineering Division (3D Printing Facility), where they experienced firsthand the applications of scientific research in real-life construction and safety scenarios.
The program concluded with an engaging interaction between students and scientists, encouraging them to pursue science and innovation for a sustainable future. The initiative reflected CSIR–CBRI’s continuous efforts under the Jigyasa 2.0 initiative to connect laboratory research with classroom learning and inspire the next generation of innovators.
The visit was coordinated with active participation and support from Shri V.K. Nautiyal, Principal and teachers, PM Shri Kendriya Vidyalaya, ITBP, Dehradun, along with CBRI staff members Rashi, Rajat, Amzad, Sanskriti, Mahesh, Anuj, Vikas, and Ajay, who ensured the smooth execution and coordination of the program activities.
