Inauguration of Five-Day Training Program on Seismic Retrofitting and DPR Preparation at CSIR-CBRI, Roorkee
Roorkee, July 28, 2025:
A five-day Training Program on Seismic Retrofitting and DPR Preparation commenced today at CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Roorkee, under the CSIR Integrated Skill Initiative Program. Scheduled from July 28 to August 1 2025, the workshop is sponsored by the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (HPSDMA) and coordinated by Er. Ashish Pippal, Senior Scientist, CSIR-CBRI. The inaugural session was graced by the Chief Guest, Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, Director, CSIR-CBRI, along with Ar. S.K. Negi, Chief Scientist, and other eminent dignitaries including Dr. Ajay Chaurasiya, Sh. Nadeem Ahmad, Dr. Leena Chaurasiya, Dr. Chandan Swaroop Meena, and Dr. Naveen Nishant. Along with that, Sh. Rajnish Kumar, Technical Assistant, Ms. Sanskriti Sharma, Sh. Amzad, Sh. Mahesh, and other staff members from the ODS Division also extended their valuable support and presence. Dr. Ajay Chaurasia briefed the participants about the objectives and structure of the training program. He motivated the participants by highlighting the importance of such technical workshops in enhancing practical knowledge and skills. Thereafter, Ar. S.K. Negi expressed heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering support and trust shown by the Himachal Pradesh Government towards CSIR-CBRI. He remarked that such collaborations not only strengthen institutional ties but also play a pivotal role in advancing safer and more resilient infrastructure across vulnerable regions. Director Prof. R. Pradeep Kumar, in his inaugural address underlined the importance of hands-on training and real-world experience in the field of structural engineering. He remarked, “It is through practice that knowledge becomes wisdom. In hilly regions, the risk of structural failures is significantly higher, and hence, engineers must meticulously examine every aspect on the ground.” He also introduced the participants to CSIR-CBRI’s vision, capabilities, and ongoing research in earthquake-resistant construction and retrofitting technologies. The vote of thanks was proposed by Sh. Nadeem Ahmad, Chief Scientist, who extended a warm welcome to all participants and conveyed his best wishes for a productive and enriching training experience. He acknowledged the collective efforts of the organizing team and emphasized the value of collaborative learning in strengthening disaster resilience. The training program comprises expert lectures, technical sessions, and hands-on demonstrations designed to enhance the practical skills and awareness of engineers and professionals engaged in structural safety and disaster risk mitigation.
